I love to find these beautiful, vintage pillow covers. Pillows became trendy about , so many began to appear about that time. Many of these use silk floss and came in a kit with a pre-tinted linen, just as our kits come today. What makes these very special to me are the quirky sayings and silk threads that were used. I quilt these on a Handi Quilter Fusion, longarm. This the the original cover. I removed the backing, which was a depression era, green linen. The magenta stitch is hers, the satin stitching would have gone over it to give some padding.

The Royal Wedding this weekend reminds me of a special wedding request that deserves a journal entry. The story begins in when two girls meet at school and become friends. The one friend has just decided to long arm and Order 1 is received from the friend who trusts and believes in her! The bride chose a pinwheel pattern that used interesting borders and a pieced binding to really make it a stunning quilt.
I love when tradition meets modern!! As with any quilt I make, the fabric is washed to prevent shrinkage after it’s sewn and ensure the fabrics don’t bleed on each other.

Helen Kelley, a nationally recognized quiltmaker and writer on quilting, died of a heart attack on Sept. Kelley, whose work was often inspired by family life and her travels, was inducted into the Quilting Hall of Fame in Marion, Ind. Just every stitch, every bit of her workmanship had great needlework. In all, Kelley made more than quilts, sometimes taking years for the vision of one to take shape and spending months crafting it.

Sun Francisco – “This quilt is an attempt to recreate the Victorian houses that line the hills of San Francisco, using only the techniques of piecing and careful fabric selection to represent the lacy curtains in the windows. The dyed sky represents the fog that swirls around these houses daily. The houses are created in batiks, border prints and all over prints in tones of pink, teal and beige.
Each house has a raised foundation with a flight of steps leading to the front door.

Each block should incorporate teal or turquoise. Fabric A: use a light color. Fabric B: use a dark color. Make a pencil line diagonally on back of fabric.
